Message: Dear IEF,
I am an artist at Southern Utah University. I am studying
painting/drawing/ and printmaking. My goal in life as an artist is to
be a successful wildlife artist in support of the conservation and
protection of endangered species and all foundations dedicated to
support and preserve the lives of animals around the world. I am aware
of the issues in Africa with elephants ruining crops, especially in
Botswana. I am also aware and concerned about poaching of all animals
but especially elephants. I would be honored if IEF would consider my
life mission and contact me if there is anything that I could do in
order to help. Thank you so much for your time.

Dear Mary,
Thank you very much for your inquiry. The Balboa Art Conservation Center
is a nonprofit regional conservation center devoted to the preservation of
material culture in the areas of art and history. We offer pre-program
internships to individuals interested in becoming art conservators and who
are within one year of completing the requirements to enter a graduate
program in art conservation. It sounds like you are building a good
background in fine art and if you are interested in becoming an art
conservator, I would recommend looking at the American Institute for the
Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (
www.conservation-us.org).
This website will give you excellent information about what an art
conservator does and the training involved.
It also sounds like you are interested in the conservation of wildlife,
and I would suggest contacting organizations such as the Wildlife
Conservation Society (
www.wcs.org) for more information and career
opportunities.
Please let us know if you have any more questions. I wish you the best of
luck in your endeavors!

Other than these, i just researched other organizations such as Wildlife Conservation Society, Audobon, and a couple independent societies around the U.S. Most of them don't directly have internships, but they accept donations, and i'm sure i could do volunteer artwork for them. Since then, since it is important to me i've been signing acts online for a paper trail since that is what i can do for now. here are my saved emails from all those.
I know i can't put them on my resume, but if i ever go into an interview i would like to have evidence that i have made some sort of effort

Dear Mary,
Thanks so much for writing your
representatives! Our campaign is picking up speed every day and you've
helped bring us a little closer to getting the bison elected our
National Mammal.
Now, will you get others involved in our
campaign? Just take a few more moments out of your day to forward the
note below to friends and family.
Thanks so much.

FORWARD THE MESSAGE BELOW TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Hi -
I'm not sure if you've heard about this,
but right now there's a campaign to elect the bison our National Mammal.
We already have a national emblem – it's the bald eagle – but the spot
of National Mammal is still open.
Bison are the largest land mammal in the
country. Their grazing patterns shaped the Great Plains, and they've
been important for centuries of history and culture. And you might not
have known this, but today there are bison in every state in America.
What other mammal is better at symbolizing America?
Check out this video PSA for the bison,
then, send a message to your representative asking them to enact the
National Bison Legacy Act. I just did it and I was hoping you would too.
Thanks!

Hey -
It appalls me just to think about this, but
poachers seeking ivory are killing elephants in record numbers. In
fact, 2011 was the deadliest year in decades for elephants across
Africa.
It's a big problem. And to make matters
worse, a House of Representatives committee just recommended slashing
funding for elephants and other imperiled wildlife through the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service. These urgent funds for anti-poaching law
enforcement won't be a priority unless our lawmakers hear that
constituents like us are demanding action.
I took action already, and I really hope you'll join me.
Thanks so much.

Mary,
We're so glad you are on board. Together
with President Obama, Secretary Clinton and YOU, we're waging a global
fight against the illegal wildlife trade. But we need an entire movement
if we're going to turn the tide on this rampant problem threatening to
wipe elephants, tigers, and so many other species off the map.
Will you get others to join? Spread the word on

Twitter. Or, you can forward the note below to family and friends.

-----------------------------------------Forward to Friends-----------------------------------------------
Hi,
President Obama and Secretary of State
Clinton are in Southeast Asia right now meeting with heads of state. And
for possibly the first time in history, wildlife is high on their
agenda. They'll be discussing ways these nations can thwart poachers and
reduce the insatiable demand for ivory and other wildlife body parts
such as tiger bones and pelts.
It's an uphill battle, but I'm so glad to
know we have two of the world's top diplomats standing up for tigers,
elephants, and other wildlife driven to extinction by poaching.
These talks are laying critical groundwork
for trade negotiations happening in early December that could build
ground-breaking environmental and conservation policies directly into
our agreements with these countries.
We need to make sure President Obama and
Secretary Clinton know folks at home think they're doing the right
thing. Will you send them a letter of support?
Thanks!

The Plan
I don't care how I get to paint as long as I get to. Creating wildlife illustrations/art has been an idea I have considered. I don't have a specific place I want to live. I wouldn't mind living in Colorado or in the mid-west. Utah isn't somewhere I particularly care to stay. If I am successful in creating a portfolio to promote my skills as an artist so that I am hired in a studio to do art for someone else, or freelance work, I would be happy. I don't like the idea of creating art for a major corporation only to promote a product. Whether it is for printmaking, painting or drawing, as long as I am able to continue to do those things and make money to survive I'll be fine.
I do have a plan. I want to become a conservation artist. Creating art to help in the conservation of wildlife worldwide and also the conservation of our forests and oceans. This is something I care deeply about. Finding a job where I could consistently create are for this purpose would be my dream. I think at some point in most people's lives they want to become a photographer for National Geographic, but this point came when I was eight. I thought if I did I would contribute to helping everyone become aware of the beauty of wildlife and nature. Whether I am painting pieces for a charity auction, or designing signs and posters for a protest against illegal poaching, I will find joy.
Artist Statement
Expressing myself through art is more about inspiration than anything else. It is important to me to have an emotional experience with art than to create a piece of art that is solely to cover a bare spot on the wall. I aspire to create art to move the viewer. I want people to feel something when they see my art. Whether my art makes them angry, happy, sad, or just peaceful. If my art is used just to look at, for the colors, design, or content that would be fine too. If someone views a piece of my art and remembers it for more than one day, recalling the image and the impact it made on them, I will feel successful.
Inspiration for my work comes from all around me. Gestures from people and their expressions. Most of my inspiration comes from what I find to be beautiful, peaceful or it develops from a strong emotional response I have to something. The beauty of nature is the essence of my artwork. Details in cloud formation, textures in tree bark, the movement of water can all be inspiration for a piece of work.
Most of my art pieces are made from an urge to draw attention to a certain animal, tree or a beautiful element on earth. I hope it inspires to find the beauty in all things on this earth. My art is often a call to those who have become lost in the world of technology and have forgotten about the natural beauty of the earth.
I don't feel the necessity to explain what elements in my artwork means. It is a very personal thing for me. Explaining also sometimes takes away from what i want the viewer to see and feel. I want their experience to be personal without any influences from my own opinions.
